LAVADERO DA PORTELA

LAVADERO DA PORTELA

Discover an ancient stone washhouse, possibly built by Romans or Suevi, surrounded by fountains and streams, in an area of high historical traffic.
A large sinkhole located in the parish of Burgueira. Today, the pía has large stones that form a basin. Next to it, there is a rustic stone wall used for watering two fields.

Regarding the antiquity of the basin, it is thought that it could have been built by the Romans or even the Suevi and used for some kind of sacred ritual. However, it's also possible that it dates back to the Middle Ages and was simply a cabal and gandherd shelter in a highly-trafficked area. However, the presence of streams and fountains throughout the area makes this possibility more difficult.
