The Curros
CURRO OF TORROÑA
Enjoy a unique experience in a place where the ranchers handle wild horses with ancestral techniques, branding and releasing them afterwards.
The curro de Torroña is made up of 3 enclosures, these in turn are made of granite stone. The largest of the three is where the curro takes place, the medium-sized one is where the horses for sale are kept and the small one is where the foals are kept.
In this way, first thing in the morning, the breeders go up to the mountain and lead the wild horses to the curro. Afterwards, they eat on the mountain, in the picnic area or in the canteens near the curro.
In the afternoon, the herdsmen enter the curro and separate the horses by branding and cutting off their manes, and then release them back into the wild.
Thus, the only and main event is the celebration of the Rapa, when the stockbreeders enter the enclosure, and using techniques used in ancient times, they identify and collect their horses, clean them, cut their manes and mark the new animals.
